The Idols were named Idols after a voting between the regulars of the night Club/Restaurant ‘Auto Club’ in Kifissia in 1965. 3-4 names were proposed by the famous singer of that time Mrs. Danae and the one that won was the one proposed by the main singer and leader of the band , Jo Michat.
The band up to then had a lot of changes and in the end they all decided that two keyboardists it’s a must. Real piano Dinos Papavassiliou and Notis Lalaitis (Farfisa electronic organ). Demis Roussos (bass guitar) , Anthony Youlis (guitar) , Nick Tsiloyiannis (drums) and singer and leader of The Idols was Jo Michat.
As Army service in Greece is compulsory many changes occurred and in 1967 it was the drummer’s time to go into national service for 27 months. On the drums came Vasilis Konstantinidis after a strong suggestion by Demis Roussos.
Jo Michat also decided that an International career was more attractive as a solo artist and left as well in 1967. Giorgos Petridis was the new front man/singer of the band after a suggestion by Vasilis Konstantinidis. Within two years the singers of the band were Giorgos Petridis or Lazaros Papageorgiou as Giorgos had his ‘moons’ of going or staying with the band.
The band musicians that left in 1971 were Giorgos Petridis, Lazaros Paapgeorgiou, Manolis Kavouklis, Dinos Papavassiliou and their replacements were George Pentzikis on the piano / flute / vocals and Vassilis Papavassiliou on Bass /Main vocals , both from Salonica.
In 1971 last formation of The Idols was this one: Vasilis Konstantinidis on the drums and some vocals, Vasilis Papavassiliou on bass and leading vocals, Anthony Youlis on guitar, George Pentzikis on piano / flute and backing vocals, Notis Lalaitis on the Hammond organ and vocals.
In 1972 the band stopped performing while on a tour of Europe and it doesn’t exist anymore as their first fans new it.
