Born on December 18th in Albuquerque, NM Randy Castillo got his start playing in numerous cover bands that were heavily influenced by the likes of Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. In 1981, Randy got his first big touring gig as the fill-in drummer for the pop band The Motels who were the opening act on The Cars' Shake It Up Tour.
In 1984, Randy was hired to play drums on Lita Ford's Dancin' On The Edge album where he met Lita's boyfriend at the time, Nikki Sixx and bandmate and fellow drummer Tommy Lee. Tommy would later be the one to introduce Randy to Ozzy Osbourne who was looking for a replacement for Tommy Aldridge who had left Ozzy's band following the Bark at the Moon tour.
After parting ways with Ozzy, Randy played in several bands over the next 6 years until he got a call from Sharon Osbourne in 1999 who told him that Tommy Lee had just left Motley Crue and they were looking for a drummer. Randy made a phone call and the job was his without even an audition.
Randy and Motley entered the studio and recorded 2000's New Tattoo and prepared to set out on the Maximum Rock tour with Anthrax and Megadeth when Randy became ill. He was diagnosed with Squamous cell Carcinoma and was forced to sit out the tour for treatment. He was replaced by Hole drummer Samantha Maloney. Randy's cancer briefly went into remission but returned less than a year later.
Randy Castillo passed away on March 26, 2002 at the age of 51.
